We Have Hybrid Puppies Here!
Hybrid or "designer" dogs are one of the most popular trends in the puppy world, and we love the variety these mixes bring. By blending two parent breeds, hybrid puppies often combine the best traits of both worlds, resulting in affectionate personalities and eye-catching looks.
Here are a few of the hybrid puppies you may find here at Petland Pensacola, along with what makes each one special.
Cavachon: A Gentle, Fluffy Companion
The Cavachon is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise. You've probably seen these beauties without knowing their name!
- Height: 12 to 16 inches
- Weight: 10 to 20 pounds
- Coat colors: peach and white are most common, along with tri-color, black and tan, and sable
Maltishi: Small, Smart, and Low-Shedding
The Maltishi blends the Maltese and the Shih Tzu. These little companions were created to be small, low-shedding lap dogs, but there's more to them than looks.
They're active, intelligent, and surprisingly laid-back, happy simply spending quality time with family. Just be aware they can be a bit curious and mischievous when the mood strikes.
Walrus: The Wrinkly Conversation Starter
The Walrus, sometimes called a Ba-Shar, is a cross between a Chinese Shar-Pei and a Basset Hound. His body favors the Basset, while his crinkly, wrinkled skin comes straight from the Shar-Pei.
- Weight: 40 to 60 pounds (a medium-sized dog)
- Temperament: affectionate and easygoing
- Best for: owners with more relaxed, sedentary lifestyles
Because Walrus puppies are still fairly rare, they tend to be a show stopper wherever they go.
Mini Goldendoodle: The Friendly Family Favorite
The Miniature Goldendoodle, nicknamed the "Mini Groodle," is a cross between a Toy, Miniature, or small Standard Poodle and a Golden Retriever. The Goldendoodle name first appeared in the United States in the early 1990s.
These puppies are friendly, low-shedding, and highly trainable thanks to two intelligent parent breeds. Cheerful and eager to please, a Mini Goldendoodle thrives in apartments and houses alike and can be a devoted companion for 10 to 14 years. If a Poodle mix appeals to you, the American Kennel Club's overview of the Poodle breed is a helpful place to understand where that smart, hypoallergenic coat comes from.
Yorkipoo: Playful and People-Loving
The Yorkipoo crosses the Yorkshire Terrier with a Toy or Miniature Poodle. Charming and always ready to play, this little hybrid stops people in their tracks.
Yorkipoos are gentle and loving, and they can do well with children — though they're better suited to homes with older kids, since improper handling by very young children could lead to injury. They also make wonderful companions for seniors.
Are Hybrid Puppies Right for You?
Every hybrid inherits a mix of traits from both parent breeds, so size, coat, and energy level can vary. Before choosing, it helps to think about your living space, activity level, and grooming commitment.
