Frequently Asked Questions
Tell me more about your puppies, where do they come from and why should I choose Petland over other options?
What breeds are best for people who have allergies?
People who have allergies should consider dogs that shed very little. Breeds to consider are: Yorkshire Terrier, Bichon Frise, Chinese Crested, Shih Tzu, Maltese, Poodle, Schnauzer, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and many other breeds.
Will my puppy be microchipped?
Yes, all of our puppies are microchipped before purchase. You will be given the opportunity to register it at the time of purchase. It is extremely important to register your puppies microchip. If your puppy should ever become lost, there is a good chance that your puppy will be recovered if it has a registered microchip. In a pets lifetime, one out of three will become lost. Without enrollment registration and identification about ninety percent will not be recovered.
What does it mean to have a registered puppy?
Buying a registered, purebred puppy means that its family tree is documented as being exclusively one breed. Buying a registered dog does not necessarily mean that the dog will be healthier than a non-registered dog. It means that its parents are of the same breed and that the dog comes from a purebred line. AKC (American Kennel Club) is the most familiar purebred dog registry in the country. There are several other dog registries such as ACA, APR, UKC that also register purebred dogs.
Where do you get your puppies from?
Our puppies are happy and healthy family pets. Petland’s puppies come from:
- USDA licensed breeders and distributors with no direct violations on their latest inspection report. As of January 1, 2015, our policy extends to no direct violations in the previous 24 months. Inspection reports for federally licensed breeders are available free of charge on the USDA website.
- Hobby breeders as defined by the Animal Welfare Act. These are breeders who raise their dogs in a humane manner.
- Local adoption pets that are vet-checked. Additionally, some of our puppies and kittens come from local animal shelters or from members of the local community as part of Petland’s Adopt-A-Pet program, dedicated to finding homes for accidental litters. In this program, Petland store operators work with local animal shelters and with members of the community to find homes for homeless pets. Through Petland’s Adopt-A-Pet program, hundreds of thousands of shelter and community animals have been placed with caring families.
